‘You are at world’s longest platform’: Ministry of Railways shares glimpse of ‘new accomplishment’

The record was confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records and the 1,507 m long platform was built at a cost of about Rs 20 crore, the PTI report said

The longest railway platform in the world at Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Hubballi station in Karnataka was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 12, PTI reported. Sharing the pride and joy of achieving the world record, the Ministry of Railways retweeted a photograph showing a golden coloured board that said ‘You are at world’s longest platform Hubballi 185m/1507m’. “New accomplishments for #NewIndia!” the railway ministry said.

The photograph was shared by Twitter user Sandeep Bayari who wrote, “Proud moment isn’t it ?? Samruddha Bharata 🇮🇳 #IndianRailways #PMOIndia.” The tweet posted Monday has amassed more than 463 likes and 244 retweets so far.

The record was confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records and the 1,507 m long platform was built at a cost of about Rs 20 crore, the PTI report added.

The extension was part of doubling between Hubballi and Bengaluru which began in November 2019. Gorakhpur railway station in Uttar Pradesh (1336m) had earlier topped the list of stations with the longest platforms, followed by Kollam Junction (1180m) in Kerala.

Recently, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a clip showing a passenger enjoying her train ride along with her pet dog. The woman was seen sleeping inside a blanket and after someone patted her, she woke up and showed her pet dog sleeping next to her in the locomotive. Vaishnaw retweeted the clip and wrote, “Indian Railways at your service 24×7”.
